Rules

Rules allow you to automatically remove comments that match specific criteria. Rules are a powerful method of filtering out unwanted comments based on the author, content, or IP address. When an incoming comment matches a rule, it will be automatically removed before it enters your dashboard.

Creating rules

  1. Go to the site settings in the Dashboard.
  2. Click ‘Rules’ in the sidebar.
  3. Click ‘Add rule’.
  4. Configure the rule based on the criteria you want to match.

Properties

Each rule checks it’s selected property against the value you provide. You can create rules based on the following criteria:

  • Author: The author’s name or email address.
  • Content: The comment’s content.

Operators

Each rule uses an operator to compare the property against the value. The available operators are:

  • Equals: The property must be exactly equal to the value.
  • Contains: The property must contain the value.
  • Starts with: The property must start with the value.
  • Ends with: The property must end with the value.

Value

The value you provide is what the property is compared against. For example, if you create a rule with the “Author Email” property and the “Contains” operator, the value you provide will be checked against the email address of the author.

Casing is ignored when comparing values. For example, “John Doe” is the same as “john doe”.

Example

You can create a rule to automatically remove comments from a specific author by configuring the rule like this:
